Charlotte’s Story: Scoliosis Warrior
Sometimes I like to call it my 🦈 Shark Attack scar, or joke that I'm now made of 🦾 titanium. But sometimes, I look at it and all it makes me think of is pain and hospitals.
Spinal surgery in 2015 was life-changing and quite traumatic in some ways. I wasn't able to enjoy making music again for a few years after surgery because singing and playing piano were too painful. When the pain is really bad, it can be so hard to speak kindly to myself. I find my inner voice saying, "Get on with it Charlotte", "Come on..., "You're just making a big deal out of it", and ignoring my body's prompts to take a break and notice what I need right now.
Please remember that your body and your pain are not 'too much'. It's ok to feel the loss, to let tears flow and express anger and disappointment.
Take a break. Don't be ashamed to rest and refresh. Allow yourself to feel loved and cared for and not guilty for it.
I truly didn't realise how healing this experience of getting henna done would be.
It made me realise some things. It’s beautiful to take the time to recognise the journey I've been on and celebrate how far I've come
It can be hard to feel proud of myself when I feel like my body is against me, but doing something nurturing helped to reignite self-compassion in me
My scars are an integral part of who I have become. They mean beauty to me.
Meet Sakina
Being only 12 years old, Sakina joined as a complete beginner in The Henna Gateway Academy earlier this year. She told me her goal was to apply bridal henna for her sister, and that the wedding was only in a few months.
Of course, the progress took time and a lot of effort. But guess what? A few months later, Sakina came all the way down from London just to get her henna done by me. She wanted me to glam her up for her sister’s big day—which was the sweetest gesture but the best part? She did meet her goal and apply gorgeous bridal henna on her sister.
I’m a firm believer that kids have so much potential and it only takes a little push. When we start believing in our girls and let them start young, magic happens.
Psoriasis &
a Spa day!
I had the best time getting my henna done by the lovely Sana a few weeks ago after being invited to attend a session with a mutual friend. I instantly felt at ease with her and I didn’t realise how calming and therapeutic getting your henna done could be - it really felt like a little spa day
I have psoriasis so we chatted about that and I was reassured that the henna is all natural so shouldn’t cause any reactions - it didn’t! It looked amazing and I felt beautiful!

Sunshine & Self Care
I had the best time with Sana at her henna session out in the sunshine, it was such a peaceful experience being in nature and having a bit of self care with such a stunning design as the outcome. In Birmingham we don't have much henna influences but since finding Sana I'm blown away she is amazing, 100% recommend! she even freestyled on my designs and executed them incredibly!
